Personal Conduct
What are the consequences if my child is guilty of breaking training rules?
Participation on an athletic team or club is a privilege. Participants must earn the right to represent Mount Anthony Union High School/Middle School by conducting themselves in such a manner that the image of the school district is not tarnished in any way. Mount Anthony Union HS/MS strictly enforces its alcohol, tobacco and drug use policies. Participants will adhere to training rules reviewed by the coach and refrain from the use of alcohol, tobacco and/or regulated drugs during the season, including two weeks before the season starts and two weeks after the season is concluded. Violation of the Substance Abuse Policy will result in a minimum of suspension from one quarter (1/4) of the season. Any participant whose conduct is determined to be a discredit to him/herself, the team or school during the sport season will be subject to disciplinary action. This will apply before, during and after school hours. All such incidents must be brought to the attention of the administration, athletic director, coach and parents/guardians directly involved. Appeals may be made in accordance with due process procedures through the Building Principal.
Can my child still be a part of the team during the ¼ of the season suspension?
The probation period of ¼ of the season only prohibits your child from participating in games or performances. They must continue to participate in practices and are allowed to travel to games and take part in all other aspects of being on the team. While they are allowed on the sidelines for games, they MUST NOT be in team uniform.
NOTE: Starting with the Fall of 2006, the high school has implemented a pilot program regarding training rules, in addition to the rules stated above.
They are:
1. During the duration of the in-season time than an athletic team/club/activity is meeting, if it has been determined that a student has been at a function where illegal activities are taking place (even if the student is not part of the illegal activity) he/she will receive a suspension of 1/8 of the season. Students found to be in possession of using illegal substances will be subject to the in-season policy.
2. Out-of-Season Clause: If a student participating in a club or on a sports team is caught violating any training rules outside of the season (including summer), he/she will be held to the following consequences:
1st offense: Meet with review committee
Meet with school-based clinician
School service commensurace with offense.
2nd offense: Additional meetings with school-based clinician
Not allowed to play/perform in 1/8 of season
3rd offense: Additional meetings with school-based clinician
Not allowed to play/perform in ¼ of season.
